Mike implemented data marts (InfoObjects and InfoCube) in previous case studies. In this case study, David will load the original data into the database. The transaction data will be loaded in the next instance. Good to know when we define our InfoCube in the previous case study we used the InfoObjects Material, which we defined before, and the customer, which was sent to the UCC. Since UCC has also sent the customer’s original data, we only have to take care of the material’s original data. Materials have many properties, some of which also contain core information. Again, in most cases the original information is sent to the UCC. We only need to take care of the product category, where we kept the original data in the previous case study. The original data in BW consists of attributes (eg product type and department) and description (text). Since the description can be maintained in different languages, it is stored in a separate table with additional language codes. So loading original data is a two-step process. In BW 7, it is possible to model the data flow in graphic form. A data flow contains all necessary objects and their relationships while data is loaded. In addition, it is possible to use data flow templates that describe best practice scenarios and can support complex situations. Although we keep things simple in this course, we will use the data flow template in our next case study when loading transaction data. 1 Create data flow and load material attributes TASK Create a data flow object and include the data flow for loading master data in our Material InfoObject. Create data sources and transformations to load attributes. Loading the text will be done in the next task. Note When working with case studies, please replace all names with the course ID, and with the user ID (three digits) of your professor. 1 Open the Data Warehousing Workbench Open the Data Warehousing Workbench and navigate to the useful area for modeling data flows.
