Oracle Business Intelligence Certification Path

Oracle Business Intelligence Certification Path – Microsoft has made few changes in the certification path for the new version of SQL Server, namely SQL Server 2016.

And with this post I try to gather all the exams and certifications and put them in a concise and clear way. I will be happy to accept any comments, changes and suggestions!!!

–> The new “MCSA: SQL Server 2016” certification is now at the MCSA level, i.e. “Microsoft Certified Solutions Association”, and it replaces the older “MCSA: SQL Server 2012/14”.

–> And the new certification “MCSE: Data Management and Analytics” is the best MCSE level i.e. “Microsoft Certified Solutions Expert”. This also replaces the 2 existing certificates (but retains the core exams to earn this MCSE level, which I explained below):

Level 1. “MCSA: SQL Server 2016”: Now to earn this level you must provide one of the following certifications:

Level 2. “MCSE: Data Management and Analytics”: Now to earn this level you need to obtain MCSA for one of the above 3 certifications or “MCSA: Data Science”. Then anyone participating in the following exams must pass:

Oracle Business Intelligence’s SSL Everywhere feature enables secure communication between components. You can configure SSL communication between Oracle Business Intelligence components and between Oracle WebLogic Server for secure HTTP communication throughout your deployment. This section does not cover configuring secure communications to external services such as databases and Web servers. For information about how to configure SSL for Oracle WebLogic Server, see “Configuring SSL in Oracle Fusion Middleware” in the Oracle Fusion Middleware Administrator’s Guide .

SSL is a cryptographic protocol that enables secure communication between applications over a network. Enabling SSL communication provides many benefits, including message encryption, data integrity, and authentication. An encrypted message ensures confidentiality as only authorized users have access to it. Data integrity ensures that a secure message is received without any tampering. Authentication ensures that the person sending the message is who they claim to be. This section contains the following topics:

Oracle Business Intelligence components communicate with each other using TCP/IP by default. Configuring SSL between Oracle Business Intelligence components enables secure network communication.

Oracle Business Intelligence components can communicate over only one protocol at a time. SSL cannot be used between some components, while plain TCP/IP communication is used between other components. To enable secure communication, all instances of the following Oracle Business Intelligence components must be configured to communicate over SSL:

SSL requires the server to have a public key and a private key for session negotiation. The public key is provided via a server certificate. The certificate also contains information that identifies the server. The private key is protected by the server.

SSL is configured throughout your Oracle Business Intelligence installation from a central point. Certificates are generated for you and all Oracle Business Intelligence components are configured to use SSL. SSL is configured with the following default security level:

If a higher level of security is required, manual configuration can be used to augment or replace central SSL configuration. This is much more complicated. For more information on how to configure SSL manually, contact Oracle Support. For more information, see Accessing Oracle Support.

Azure Certification Roadmap 2023

Secure communication over SSL requires certificates signed by a certificate authority (CA). For internal communications, the SSL Everywhere feature creates both a private CA and the certificates for you. Internal certificates cannot be used for the outgoing Web server because users’ Web browsers do not know the private certificate authority. Therefore, the Web server must have a Web server certificate signed by an externally recognized certification authority. The root certificate of the external certificate authority must be provided in the SSL core configuration so that Oracle Business Intelligence components can recognize the Web server certificate.

The Oracle Business Intelligence credential store is used to store SSL credentials, such as certificates, trusted certificates, certificate requests, and private keys. SSL-related credentials are stored in the oracle.bi.enterprise credential map. Supported certificate file formats are .der and .pem.

This section explains how to set up SSL communication between components using Fusion Middleware Control (Oracle recommends this method) or manually and contains the following topics:

This method does not verify peers (i.e. two-way SSL between BI system components) and always assumes that the certificate used by the Weblogic servers is signed using the CA display certificate.

You must configure SSL for your Web server before you enable SSL communication between components. For more information, see Section 5.3.3, “Manually Configuring WebLogic to Use the HTTPS Protocol”.

The WebLogic listening port must be configured to use HTTPS (for all managed servers in a cluster) before enabling SSL communication for Oracle Business Intelligence. Some Oracle Business Intelligence Java components running on Oracle WebLogic Server call other Web services running on Oracle WebLogic Server. Therefore, Oracle WebLogic Server must be configured to trust itself by setting the following Java properties:

And add the properties to the end of the JAVA_OPTIONS value. Note that any character in a path must be escaped with another character.

The best practice is to disable the HTTP listener and leave only the HTTPS listener. After you disable the HTTP listener, you must restart Oracle WebLogic Server. If Oracle WebLogic Server is not restarted, then any attempts to connect to Oracle Business Intelligence fail.

If the location of the trust store is given incorrectly, Web Services for SOA displays an error message similar to the following:

You can manually configure internal SSL communication between components using Oracle Business Intelligence management beans (MBeans). An MBean is a Java object that represents a manageable JMX resource in a distributed environment, such as an application.

Use the Fusion Middleware Control System MBean Browser to manually configure SSL communication between Oracle Business Intelligence components. The MBean System Browser is accessed from the Oracle WebLogic Server domain where Oracle Business Intelligence is installed in Fusion Middleware Control. For example, bifoundation_domain.

To configure SSL between components, you must lock the configuration before making changes. The BIdomain MBean is used to lock the configuration.

Internal SSL communication requires the generation of server certificates, server public key, and private key. Oracle Business Intelligence acts as a private CA (certification authority) for internal communications only. MBean BIDomain.BIInstance.SecurityConfiguration is used to generate the SSL certificates.

If you already have certificates, the best practice is to discard them and generate new certificates by following these steps. To use your existing certificates, you must manually configure SSL.

This message indicates that SSL is not enabled on the Oracle WebLogic Server Managed servers, which is a required step. For more information, see Section 5.3.3, “Manually Configuring WebLogic to Use the HTTPS Protocol”. After this condition is completed, you can resume the commit operation.

You can run an SSL report using the BIDomain.BIInstance.SecurityConfiguration MBean to verify that SSL communication is working between components.

Certificates generated by the SSL Everywhere core configuration expire after one year. The certificate’s expiration date is listed in the SSL Status Report. For more information about how to perform an SSL report, see Section 5.3.4.6, “Determining the SSL State Using the MBean Browser”. For an example of the certificate expiration message that will be displayed, see Example 5-1, “Sample SSL Report Output.”
