There is no Business Intelligence Development Studio (BIDS) in SQL Server 2012, instead it is replaced by SQL Server Data Tools, which uses the original Visual Studio 2010, Reporter, and Reporter is built into the new Visual Studio.

The UI has changed colors and looks a bit sharper, but overall you have the same functionality as before with some new features. Anyone reporting Builder 2008 or 2008R2 will have no problem here. This may come as a bit of a surprise to those moving to it since 2005 or earlier.

The product can be accessed outside of the Power BI environment. For more information about Tabular Content Model in Power BI data model, please read this article. In this tutorial, we will use Visual Studio to write a simple dotnet console application and try to access a tabular content model from a Power BI file. With the help of this knowledge, programmers and BI developers can not only view patterns in the Power BI data model, but also improve the data model by writing a few lines of code. This can be further improved by automatically generating Power BI models with the help of the Tabular Object Library in DotNet.
First of all, since we’re going to use visual effects, we’re going to use visual effects. ) to connect to the Power BI data model, let’s proceed to install it on our machine. Go to the official website of Visual Studio and download the appropriate version of the tool. Since I am on Windows, I will continue to download the latest Windows version of the tool.

Once you have downloaded the tool locally, proceed to install it. Keep the default settings during installation, I have already installed the tool before this tutorial, so I will not install it again.
Once you have successfully installed Visual Studio, the next step is to download and install the DotNet Core SDK. Note that we need to install the DotNet Core SDK and not the runtime. At the time of writing this article, the latest version of the DotNet Core SDK available is 3.1.302. You can download it from here. The download may take some time depending on your internet connection. Once it is downloaded, proceed to install it with the recommended settings.
As you can see in the image above, run the command “dotnet -info” after the installation is complete. You will be able to see the latest version installed on your machine along with previously installed versions.

Now that we have the DotNet Core SDK installed on our machine, we are ready to create the console application that we will use to interact with the Power BI data model. Create the directory where you want to create the application. Once inside the directory, run the following command.
This command will create a new dotnet console application in the directory, as mentioned, and you can see the result in a directory like this. There are two files – “
This will be the folder where we will write all our code related to the Power BI database. You can already open this file and inside will be some sample code that you can build and run.

As you can see, we have successfully built and implemented our application. The next step is to install the Tabular Object Model library in this program so that we can use it in our application. You can run the following command to install the package in the console application.
The installation will take some time, then you will see that the package has been installed successfully.
Now that we have installed the TOM library in the console application, we can proceed to start using this library in our code. For this tutorial, I will use the Power BI report template downloaded from the official documentation from Microsoft. The goal is to create a small program that can connect to this Power BI report and display a list of tables in it.
Bi Semantic Model
I’ll go ahead and open the sample report in Power BI Desktop. You can see the table names on the right.
As you can see, there are six different tables in this Power BI template; We will try to show the same in the console application.
Go to Visual Studio Code and paste the code below Make sure you change the port number of the search service server to be different in your environment. To find the port number, you can follow any of the techniques mentioned in this article.
I Am Done Using Visual Studio …for Bi Data Model Development
As you can see in the image above, we first create an object “
” which connects to localhost and the port we specified. Now, this server object can contain one or more records. In our case, since we have only one tabular database, we try to get the sample data from the primary data source. Once the data model is located in the console application, we can run a statement that returns the name of each table in this data model.
Here, you can see the list of table names in the Power BI database displayed. This is a simple process where we list the table names in the database. With the Tabular Object Library, you can actually do a lot of automated tasks like adding parameters to an existing data model or copying levels from one model to another and things like that. Additionally, you can register your console application with Power BI Desktop and you can use your application as a tool in the Power BI Desktop application. These are some of the small tasks that can be accomplished using the Tabular Object Model Client Library for .NET.
Angular Environment Setup In Visual Studio
While this may not be the preferred way of working with Power BI data models, the purpose of this article is to provide an overview of how to get started with a video game application while using the TOM library. There are two types of tools used by the Power BI community such as DAX Studio, Tabular Editor, etc. that can be used to edit data models outside of the Power BI environment.
In this article, we have seen how to connect to the Power BI data model using Visual Studio (visual effects) and how to access the Tabular Object Model within code. The Tubular Objects Model, also known as TOM, is a client library provided by Microsoft that can be used to build programs and access data models based on Power BI. It is very helpful in managing the creation and modification of Power BI data models in a systematic manner. As you begin working with the Tabular Objects library, it will help you understand how the tabular model works and help you build tools that aren’t available for using Power BI data models.
