Business Intelligence Gartner – This year, Microsoft was recognized as a leader in Gartner’s 2018 Magic Quandrant for Analytics and Business Intelligence Platforms and is positioned further to the right, compared to Tableau, for total visibility within the top quadrant . Power BI has been a major contributor to this success story and has brought self-service analytics at scale to businesses around the world.
Microsoft Power BI is a suite of business analytics tools that allow organizations to connect to hundreds of data sources, prepare the data, perform data discovery and allow users to perform customized analysis. Reports can be created and then published for web and mobile viewing, giving organizations a 360-degree view of their business.

Microsoft offers several options to choose from that can be on-premises or cloud-based. These include the Power BI Service, Power BI Desktop, and most recently, the Power BI Reporting Server.
Smart Data Discovery
Power BI Desktop is a desktop application that allows users to connect to hundreds of different data sources, clean and prepare data, analyze it and generate reports using custom images that can be embed on websites or publish to the Power BI service in the cloud.
Power BI Service is a software as a service (SaaS) offering online from Microsoft In addition to Power BI portals, users can connect directly to on-premises SQL database analysis services and data sources another. Apps and workspaces have two important features in the online service, learn more here.
Power BI Report Server is the on-premises version that provides a local way to store and manage Power BI reports.

There are two types of licensing for organizations to choose from; Power BI Pro and Power BI Premium. With Power BI Pro users licensed individually and with the Premium option, an organization can license its content instead of licensing all users of that content. Microsoft provides an easy-to-use calculator to help you choose the one that best suits your needs.

It’s always interesting to see how the SAP BI offering compares to its competitors. In previous years I was very critical of this report, most SAP tools were completely provided (SAP BusinessObjects BI Platform, Lumira, etc.) and SAP Analytics Cloud was just starting. In the 2019 version, the BOBJ stuff is still out of service, but that’s something I can live with because SAP has clearly changed their strategy to the cloud.
So let’s look at the chart. SAP is seen as a vision, but with low capacity to implement. Big competitors Microsoft (PowerBI) and Tableau seem to be way ahead, both in terms of vision and performance. The detail on SAP is basically a rehash of a lame, bad and ugly write-up on SAP Analytics Cloud in 2018. Some recommendations from the report:
Navigating The Gartner Magic Quadrant For Business Intelligence And Analytics Platforms
SAP is a visionary, whose position in the Magic Quarter is affected by product limitations and relative weakness in terms of sales and marketing strategy. The leaders in this market still lack the broad market momentum of SAP. However, its decision to focus on one product is starting to improve its competitiveness. SAP Analytics Cloud reference customers report a much better view of SAP’s capabilities as a resource for modern analytics and business intelligence. The integrated functionality of SAP Analytics Cloud design, analytics, and forecasting capabilities in one unified platform is a differentiator. SAP is one of only two vendors in the Magic Quadrant with such an offering.
I can only agree with this. The focus should not just be on closing the functional gap with quadrant leaders, but on offering a more integrated and comprehensive solution.
The SAP Analytics Hub aims to connect cloud and on-premises deployments, providing a single front end to SAP and partner-created analytics offerings. This view resonates – SAP Analytics Cloud reference customers showed more improvement in their view of their suppliers’ viability than any other customer intelligence group in this Magic Quarter.
Gartner Magic Quadrant 2019 For Analytics And Business Intelligence Platforms
Yes, the Hub is a powerful and smart solution with a clear purpose. However, it could be much better than what is currently being offered and I haven’t seen much progress in the last year.
Gartner sees this as a strength, but it won’t win the war. Commenting on business content is great for getting some inspiration and ideas, but it’s not an out-of-the-box solution.
Functional limitations: SAP Analytics Cloud still lags behind in several areas, especially scalability and model complexity. In addition, the data source connection under SAP source control and integration capability, and the ability to integrate analytical content, is relatively poor. Performance is the main limitation to the wider use of SAP Analytics Cloud, according to the reference customers. They placed SAP Product Support—specifically response time and problem resolution—in the top third of vendors in this Magic Quadrant.
Gartner Critical Capabilities For Analytics & Bi Platforms
Cloud only: Most organizations are now looking at cloud-based software as part of their data and analytics deployment, but a minority still aren’t. For this minority, SAP Analytics Cloud is not very suitable, although it can connect directly to local SAP resources for live data and some non-SAP data sources for data integration.
Gartner mentions this as a weakness, I don’t think so. The direct connection architecture is a smart solution where data does not have to leave the physical network and does not travel “to the cloud”, which will be the biggest struggle point for these customers.
Tableau: Easy Visual Search and Data Manipulation: Tableau allows users to quickly import data from a wide range of data sources, combine it, and visualize results using best practices in visualization. Data can be manipulated at runtime – such as when creating new groups, bins and hierarchies – all with a high level of usability.
Market Guide For Security Threat Intelligence Products And Services
This is what I’ve seen and heard from Tableau users. It is very easy to use, very flexible and rich with features.
Chart: Customers as fans: Customers have a fan-like attitude towards Tableau, as evidenced by the record number of 17,000 users who attended the User Conference Annual 2018. Customer Reference placed Tableau in the top third of the Provider Magic Quadrant for customer experience, and gave it high scores for achieving business benefits. Tableau sets the industry standard for empowering users through Meetup groups, roadshows, online tutorials, and marketable skills.
SAP clearly missed the boat. The Tableau community reminds me a bit of what the BusinessObjects community and especially the Xcelsius community was like 10 years ago. People have been sharing their creative ideas on how to make everything out of tools. The broken SAP community doesn’t help with this either
Microsoft Power Bi: Líder Del Cuadrante Mágico De Gartner 2020
Making PowerBI available for free (almost) and bundling it with WindowsOS is a strategy Microsoft is known for, and it seems to be working in PowerBI’s favor (which is a cool name, cool for a BI tool btw!SAP Analytics Cloud).
Microsoft PowerBI: Easy to use for complex types of analysis User references continue to recognize Microsoft for its ease of use – they gave it the top three ratings in all aspects of usability. to send users to test and be ‘wowed’ within five minutes) and a strong user community contribute to this score.
I’ve seen many first-time BI users start with those trial (or university) licenses in Tableau or PowerBI and plug into the tool. SAP Analytics Cloud has a free 30-day trial option, but you have to pay for this more.

So, in addition to a conclusion, the report provides an overview of where SAP Analytics Cloud stands compared to its competitors, but Idon does not read many new or unexpected ideas . What is important is that the integrated platform solution is clearly recognized as a unique proposition, as this can be a differentiating factor for SAP Analytics Cloud in the market.
