Gartner Critical Capabilities For Business Intelligence And Analytics Platforms

Gartner Critical Capabilities For Business Intelligence And Analytics Platforms – Last March 17, Gartner published its analysis on “Critical Capabilities for Analytics and Business Intelligence Platforms”. This analysis is considered:

My main quibble with MicroStrategy’s ad for this analysis is that for 7 metrics, 5 different tools are in the top position (MicroStrategy is the only tool that is in the top position twice).

It is very complicated for them to use this analysis with clients, justify this discrepancy and explain how MicroStrategy ranks because there is a different competitor at the top of each metric.

Based on this evidence, I decided to do my own analysis to understand how Gartner labels and ranks MicroStrategy for each use case.

Gartner Critical Capabilities For Business Intelligence And Analytics Platforms

Conclusion: Automated Insights, NLQ and NLG are the 3 metrics that put MicroStrategy in second place (an available NLG visualization could easily put MicroStrategy in first place)

Conclusion: Thick client, lost hybrid/multicloud, and lost connectivity for unstructured data are the main issues that put MicroStrategy in fifth place.

Conclusion: Out of the box models like regression, decision trees or clustering and the complexity of adding them to plugins are the 2 main things that put MicroStrategy in third place.

If microtech wants to be number one in the other two criteria, they need to focus on these 3 areas:

For advanced analytics, it will be difficult to be number one because TIBCO software manages its own models in its own library.

Finally, MicroStrategy remains the leader in BI that can answer almost any customer need, and its data model is a real strength for avoiding technical debt and managing large amounts of data.

However, MicroStrategy must continue to evolve and not focus solely on HyperIntelligence to meet the needs of new customers and be a direct competitor/substitute for Power BI, Salesforce Einstein Analytics, Yellowfin or TIBCO Software. Gartner’s Critical Capabilities Research companion Magic Quadrant for Analytics and BI Platforms report provides a detailed overview of each vendor’s products and capabilities that managers and product leaders should consider when evaluating data and analytics initiatives.

As business relationships and partnerships become more prominent topics in the CX space, the demand for such solutions is increasing.

After all, analytics and business intelligence solutions not only reveal hidden insights into the organization, they also help create a unified view of CX. Thus they enable each section to sing from the same hymn sheet.

However, there are more aspects to the platforms offered by vendors in the Magic Quadrant. To understand this, here is how Gartner defines such a solution.

According to Gartner, analytics and business intelligence (ABI) systems enable less technical members of the CX team to analyze, explore, share and manage data. The platform also enables users to discover and visualize insights while laying the foundation for cross-collaboration.

Artificial intelligence enables much of this functionality in modern systems, and information about the user and their workflow is also readily available.

However, there are more important features to consider before investing in an ABI platform. Gartner points to the following 12 as good examples:

These features are the primary sources of differentiation in the offerings of the 20 providers below. Carefully evaluating each, Gartner has divided each vendor into four categories: Leaders, Challengers, Visionaries, and Niche Players.

Leaders in the Magic Quadrant pair a strong vision and track record of delivering value by demonstrating advanced knowledge of ABI’s critical capabilities, along with a commitment to customer success. Not only do they provide proof of this value, but they also enable increased procurement and organizational flexibility to meet the specific needs of businesses in many sectors. This year’s leaders are:

Gartner Magic Quadrant 2016 2022 For Analytics And Business Intelligence

Gartner praises Microsoft’s Power BI offering for its integration with Office 365, Teams and Azure Synapse, which has achieved widespread market penetration and momentum. Such a broad portfolio—which includes visual data discovery, advanced analytics, and interactive dashboards—represents a comprehensive vision and ambition. Along with this, the marketer also emphasizes the price and value of Microsoft’s solution as an important differentiator.

After Salesforce acquired Tableau in 2019, Salesforce strengthened its position as a leader in the ABI space. The acquisition enables Salesforce to build an ecosystem that takes full advantage of MuleSoft, Tableau and Tableau CRM. In the report, Gartner praises Salesforce for this, along with its ease of use and affordability of analytics, making it easier for users to “access, prepare, analyze, and present findings about their data.”

2021 was a big year for Qlik, as it acquired NodeGraph and Big Squid to add more capabilities to its extensive portfolio. Gartner praises these additions, citing the new machine learning and metadata management features of Qlik Sense as particular strengths. Other things the marketing expert pointed out are the flexibility of distribution offered by the vendor as well as customer engagement and data literacy programs.

Magic Quadrant Competitors that are well-positioned to succeed in the ABI market offer a proven ability to consistently deliver value to businesses with specific use cases. However, these providers seem to lack coordination between the different products in their portfolio. Alternatively, they may lag behind the leaders in terms of sales and marketing, proprietary content and innovation. This year’s contestants are:

Google has been making inroads in the ABI space since its acquisition of Looker in 2019. By integrating the ABI platform into the Google Cloud Platform (GCP) ecosystem, Gartner welcomes Google’s opportunity to combine its strengths with other capabilities in its cloud stack. The database architecture and its management – along with application development resources – are also notable strengths. However, the marketing expert cautions that SQL skills are essential for advanced users.

According to Gartner, Domo has gained significant momentum in the crowded space. It cites the provider’s fast pace and strong focus on consumer design as key reasons for this, as the company seeks to capitalize on the low-code/no-code revolution that is impacting enterprise technology choices. However, Gartner notes that the company lags behind market leaders because it lacks the channels of a broader ecosystem of applications.

The visionaries in the Magic Quadrant provide a strong and distinctive vision for ABI’s modern platform and deliver high-performance performance in their fields of expertise. Unfortunately, despite these thought leaders, they sometimes lack the broader ability to implement an ABI solution at scale and consistently. This year’s dreamers are:

Thoughtspot introduces a new “developer playground” in 2021, offering tools for businesses to build innovative data applications. This is just one example of how the company is bringing life to its consumer-centric vision, which Gartner praised in the report. Other strengths mentioned are flexibility and market awareness as an enhanced analytics platform. That said, the research firm cautions that Thoughtspot lacks a broader data and analytics ecosystem.
